Juniors Section

TAC provides opportunities for athletes from the age of 8 upwards to receive coaching and compete in a wide range of athletic disciplines.  These range from local indoor Sportshall to National Track & Field Championships. Please see our junior welcome back >>>TAC Juniors Welcome pack May2017

150607-238-10 year olds – 365 Athletes

In the summer children aged 8-10 are coached in Quad Kids events – 75m, long jump, vortex throw and 600m.  There are 4 Devon League competitions during the summer where they can compete with similar aged children from other Devon clubs and gain points for TAC.

In the winter the club enters the Devon Sportshall League which has 5 meetings between October and March, including the County Championships in November.  The 8-10 year olds have the opportunity to earn medals in Sportshall.

11-17 year olds – Foundation & Performance Athletes

11-17 year olds are given the opportunity to specialise in their chosen discipline or continue with generic training.  150607-07There are two running performance groups for those that show potential to advance to higher levels.  Javelin, discus, shot putt, hammer, high jump, triple jump and endurance running are offered at training. MD/ Endurance Group This is a performance development group working across the distances from 800 to 5k whose main objective is to provide a long term training programme to transition the athletes from junior to senior level. The multi faceted approach endeavours to provide individual coaching within the group environment enabling the athletes to compete at cross-country together with indoor and outdoor track

In the summer the children have more choice in the Devon League events and there is the opportunity to join the Armada Team to compete in the South West Athletics League.  There is also National Track & Field Championships to aim for and possible selection for the Youth Development League.

This age group also competes in the Sportshall League in the winter and some attend indoor track & field events.  Those who enjoy endurance running are encouraged to take part in the Westward League Cross Country runs which takes place from October to March.
