TAC provides opportunities for athletes from the age of 8 upwards to receive coaching and compete in a wide range of athletic disciplines. These range from local indoor Sportshall to National Track & Field Championships. Please see our junior welcome pack – Junior Welcome pack.
8-10 year olds (U11)– 365 Athletes
In the summer children aged 8-10 are coached in Quad Kids events – 75m, long jump, vortex throw and 600m. There are 4 Devon League competitions during the summer where they can compete with similar aged children from other Devon clubs and gain points for TAC.
In the winter the club enters the Devon Sportshall League which has 5 meetings between October and March, including the County Championships in November. The 8-10 year olds have the opportunity to earn medals in Sportshall.
10-12 year olds (U13) – Multi events athletes- Lower Foundation
Athletes in this age group will be offered coaching in running (sprints and endurance), jumps and throws. Our aim is to give athletes experience in a range of activities which are appropriate for their current stage of development and which will enable them to feel comfortable to come along and compete in local competitions.
12-15 year olds (U15) Multi events athletes- Upper Foundation
Athletes in this age group will be offered coaching in running (sprints and endurance), jumps and throws. Our aim is to give athletes experience in a range of activities which are appropriate for their current stage of development and which will enable them to feel comfortable to come along and compete in local competitions.
Performance Athletes
Post 15, athletes are given the opportunity to specialise in their chosen discipline. There are three performance groups (Sprints, Endurance, Throws) for those that show potential to advance to higher levels. Events covered include javelin, discus, shot put, hammer, high jump, triple jump, long jump, sprints, hurdles, steeple- chase, x-country and endurance running.
In the summer athletes have a good choice of events in the Devon Open Series meetings and there is the opportunity to join the Armada Team to compete in the South West Athletics League. There is also National Track & Field Championships to aim for and possible selection for the Youth Development League (YDL) and the Southern Athletic League (SAL).
This age group also competes in the Sportshall League in the winter and some attend indoor track & field events. Those who enjoy endurance running are encouraged to take part in the Westward League Cross Country runs which takes place from October to March.
