Tavy 5k Results Issues
In June the Tavy 5 celebrated its 10th birthday. The 5k run, starting and finishing on the athletics track at Tavistock College and taking in the scenic town centre park, The Meadows, has welcomed runners of all ages and ability on the third Saturday of each month. With a few exceptions for COVID and icy conditions underfoot the event has notched up over 100 outings.
The run is, and always has been, a fully UK Athletics licenced event with an official certificate of course distance accuracy. This means that, amongst other things, the results from each event are published on the Run Britain Rankings website and can be used for UK rankings purposes. Not everyone who participates is necessarily interested in this but a lot of runners are as they like to see how they fare in their age category rankings.
We are pretty good these days at publishing the results from our monthly runs on our club website, usually on the same day as the event. But you may have noticed that, for the past 3 months, they have not appeared in the Run Britain Rankings website results pages. It has taken us a while to get to the bottom of the issue but we are now clear about what has gone wrong.
The licence for the event has to be renewed every year. The certificate of course accuracy is renewed every 10 years. Both of these were completed in June. Unfortunately, a small discrepancy in the licence application meant that it wasn’t recognised by Run Britain Rankings. And, a defect in the previous licence meant that the event wasn’t recognised from January to May. We managed to get the results published for January to April but those for May, June and July are still missing.
However, we have now managed to sort out the issues with the new licence and have been assured that all missing results will now be published. Unfortunately, the resolution of this issue has come at a time when the people at Run Britain Rankings are extremely busy so we are having to be patient while we wait for this to be done.
Apologies for the lengthy explanation and for the problems we have encountered but it is important that people know what has been going on here.
The key point to make is that the Tavy 5k is a fully licensed event on an officially measured course. Times achieved from it will count in UK rankings.
